When it comes to off-roading vehicles, there is no car on the market which is more popular than the Toyota Land Cruiser. No matter where you in the world, the chances are pretty high that some off-roader somewhere is using the Toyota Land Cruiser. It is one of the most dependable vehicles on the market.

Interestingly, the Toyota Land Cruiser is one of only a few vehicles on the market which is not going through a major aesthetic overhaul. The inside does not look that modem, and the latest vehicle that you find is the same as the 2009 model, albeit with a few more refinements which make it function a little bit better off the road.

Perhaps it is a good thing that the Toyota Land Cruiser has not gone through much in the way of upgrades. It is a car which is tough to break. When was the last time you heard of a Toyota Land Cruiser breaking down in the middle of nowhere? There is an estimated 25-year service life on this car too, although you will no doubt get a lot more than that.

Toyota Land Cruiser 0-60 and Quarter Mile

There is only one engine choice available for the Toyota Land Cruiser; a 5.7-liter V-8 engine which pumps out 381 horsepower. This is more than enough to help you to traverse the trickiest of terrain. This is all controlled by an 8-speed automatic transmission. The car is only available in 4WD, which is to be expected (although many similar off-road cars also have 2WD available).

This is a seriously heavy vehicle. You are going to be weighing coming up on 6,000 pounds when you drive it, but that does not matter. This is a workhorse car and on a road, you can expect to get the Toyota Land Cruiser 0-60 to be 6.7 seconds, with the quarter mile being about 13 seconds. Although let’s be honest, you are going to be aiming for those top speeds while you are off the road, which means you can expect it to be a bit slower.

The handling of this vehicle is impressive too, although this comes as no surprise. Toyota has worked hard to get a fantastic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System in place and some of the best roll bars we have ever seen. This car is going to be stable on even the bumpiest of roads.

You even have cruise control for off-road (known as Crawl Control), and it works surprisingly well.

Exterior and Interior

If you are looking for a modern vehicle, then the Toyota Land Cruiser is indeed not it. It has been built to last, that much is true, but often at the cost of being luxurious. It is undoubtedly an off-road vehicle, and everything has been created to be easy to clean, and so you do not have jobs breaking off in every which direction.

Plenty of space inside too. You can fit up to 7 people inside the vehicle. We love the fact that it comes equipped with a mini fridge also, something which you do not tend to find in cars all that much. We guess it makes sense. You are going to be out and about for long periods of time while in your Toyota Land Cruiser, and you want to have yourself some snacks.

If you put the backseats all down, then you have a whopping 1,943 liters of space, which is enough to sleep in or bring whatever you need for your little off-roading adventure.

Conclusion

If you want an off-roading vehicle which has been built to last, then the Toyota Land Cruiser does just that. It is a spacious vehicle which offers a smooth driving experience. Sure, it is a gas guzzler with an average 15mpg, but if you are buying this car, then you can afford the gas.
