If you have even so much as looked into SUVs in the past, then there is little doubt that you will have heard of the Toyota Highlander. It is the traditional SUV, and the 2018 model is one of the best they have ever produced. Perfect for families of all sizes.
Toyota Highlander 0-60
There are multiple engine choices available for your Toyota Highlander. This includes:
- 2.7-liter I-4 185hp
- 3.5 liter V6 with 295HP
- 3.5 liter with three electric motors. All combine to give you 306 HP.
If you opt for the lower model, then you will have a six-speed automatic transmission. If you go for one of the other two, then you get an eight-speed automatic. Obviously, each of the engines has their own pros and cons, but the bulk of people are likely going to want to splash the cash and get something a little bit more powerful.
Interestingly, there is very little difference between the engines when it comes to the Toyota Highlander 0-60. You are going to get around 7.0 seconds, with the slowest hitting 7.2 seconds. The quarter-mile acceleration is approximately 14 seconds, which is not too bad for a vehicle of this size.
The real difference between the engines comes with the gas consumption. The basic model will give you 20/24mpg on the city/highway. The V-6 will provide 20/27 and your hybrid will give 30/28. However, it is going to be utterly dependent on what drive you offer, with the all-wheel drives providing a little more gas consumption.
Exterior & Interior
The Toyota Highlander is not the biggest SUV on the market. It is SUV style, but small enough that you should be able to get it around the smaller roads. This is a vehicle which has clearly been made for those who live in towns and cities but want to get out and about easily.
There are three rows of seating in this SUV. The front two rows offer a perfect amount of space for an adult, although the back row is a little lacking in area. This tends to be a problem with most SUVs anyway. You will be able to get children in there. An adult could probably fit, but they are not going to want to travel back there for long periods of time.
You get a ton of features included in the Highlander as standard too. The best being the Safety Sense package, which makes this one of the best SUVs on the market. Couple this with the 18-inch alloy wheels, the information display, keyless entry, USB ports, and a rearview camera and the base model is fully functional before you even think about throwing in various other upgrades.
Conclusion
For a family vehicle, you are probably going to struggle to find something better than the Toyota Highlander, particularly at this price. There is just so much space inside. You won’t really need to spend anything on extras either as there is just so much packed into the vehicle as standard.
