Tesla Model S (Tesla Model S) is a rear wheel drive electric liftback of «F» class. The car appeared on the world’s market in summer 2012, three years later after the presentation of the conceptual prototype. The automobile of the S-segment is equipped with the electric power system which receives its energy from the complex of changeable batteries. In 2014 the car was restyled and received more powerful engines, four-wheel drive system and the updated interface of the information and entertainment block.

Electric Tesla Model S was developed by the Californian company according to the trends of the global automobile industry. Design was created by a group of specialists under the direction of Franz von Holzhausen who used to be working in the design department of Mazda company. The success of the Tesla Model S became possible due to many innovative decisions. During the course of development Tesla Motors signed more than 250 different patents. Many elements of the suspension are made of aluminium. The Front suspension is independent, placed on double transverse leveres and the back one is multi-levered. The gearing is rear or full. The electric Model S belongs to European class "E" according to its dimensions. So its length is 4,976 mm, its width is 1963 mm, and its height is 1435 mm.

The size of the wheelbase is 2959 mm. The clearance is 152 mm. You can reserve the pneumatic suspension as the option, which allows you to change the clearance in the range from 119 up to 192 mm. Curb weight is from 1961 to 2239 kg. The feature of Tesla Model S is the existance of two baggage compartments. The front luggage compartment contains 150 liters and the rear trunk volume is 745 liters. This figure increases to 1645 liters when the seat back of the back "couch" is folded. Besides, the two additional children's chairs are available as an option. They are placed at the rear cargo compartment. Tesla Model S goes into motion by the asynchronous three-phase AC electric motor (it is the induction type) and the set of lithium-ion batteries (in the number of 5040 to 7104).

The engines’ power is dependent on the modification. So far many various modifications of this car were offered, such as S 60, S 60D, S 70, S 70D, S 85, S P85, S 85D, S P85D, S 90D and S P90D. The digit in title denotes a battery capacity, the letter P denotes performance (it is a productivity), the letter D is for duaL motor (two motors or four-wheel drive 4WD). The lowest power modification of S-306 was equipped with 60 horsepower and the battery with capacity of 60 kW / h. The maximum speed is 193 km / h. The cruising fuel range is 335 km. The most powerful Tesla Model S P90D received two electric motors with 503 h.p. at the back side and 259 h.p. in front. Total output is 762 horsepower. The declared cruising fuel range is 403 km (253 miles). The vehicle "shoots" from 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds with the help of the fantastic torque of 967 Nm. The Maximum speed is 250 km / h. According to the 0-60 times Model S P90D can be compared with such supercars as Lamborghini, McLaren, Ferrari and Koenigsegg. When you get into the car for the first time, start the engine, and hear ... nothing. And it's a little scary, at first because the lack of the engine’s sound is unusual. It demands about 15 hours to charging to fully recover the lithium-ion battery in the electric Tesla Model S from the household network of 220V (it depends on the modification). If using the NEMA socket, this time is reduced to 6-8 hours.

You may charge the electric car’s batteries in 70-80 minutes at the special stations called Supercharger. Usualy the Tesla Model S is equipped with the xenon headlights, 8 airbags, the digital gage panel, the systems of ABS + ESP, the brakes of Brembo, LED parking lights, the aluminium disc of19 inches with rubber of the Goodyear Eagle (245 / 45R19) and informational and entertainment complex with the 17-inch monitor. The exclusive wheel plates on 19 and 21 inches, the autotyres of the Continental Extreme Contact, LED anty-fog lights, the back carbon spoiler and the panoramic glass roof are an option.

The ordinary autodriver must understand that this car has an enormous number of advantages when driving in the city, but on the track they are gone mainly because this machine can not survive the long trip on the high speeds. Its battery gets discharged too quickly. Tesla is not a racing car. This auto is for traffic jams and quiet driving. But the main thing about this car is that it gives us hope for a great and clean future.
