RAM 1500 competitors' 0-60 mph acceleration

Introduction

The ram is still our favorite light-duty pickup even though the 2018 Ram 1500 is one of the oldest designs in the segment. The primary reason why it’s our favorite is the Ram’s smooth ride, which is best in class. The Ram’s class-exclusive coil-spring rear suspension and possible self-leveling air suspension brings about the smooth ride.

0-60 and Engine specs

A 3.6-liter V-6 or 5.7-liter V-8 paired with the battery and electric motor system, which Ram calls eTorque, brings out the power from under the hood. Combination of the 3.6-liter engine and hybrid system produce 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque.

V-8 versions can have the mid-hybrid components added as an option while all V-6 models get the eTorque system. Ram says that 395 hp and 410 lb-ft is a result of the combined output from the V-8. Sometime in 2019, the turbodiesel engine will likely return.

The 2019 Ram 1500 continuously improves on the former generation’s performance on the track despite the carryover powertrain. This is due to the crash diet Ram engineers put the new 1500 on. The new Ram goes from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and made 1/4 mile in 14.7 seconds at 93.7 mph, unlike the identically specced 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 tested a few years back which weighs 328 pounds more.

Compared to the old Ram which needed 7.0 seconds to hit 0-60 mph and 15.5 seconds to pass the quarter-mile point at 87.7 mph, this is a notable improvement.

Braking and fuel efficiency are the only measurable places the new Ram doesn’t improve on. 2019 1500 Laramie ties the 2013 1500 Laramie's 122-foot 60-0 brake performance as well as matching its 15/21/17 mpg city/highway/combined EPA rating.

Exterior & interior

Thanks to lighter steel and aluminum components the truck is lighter than the outgoing model by 225 pounds.
More advanced safety features including forward-collision warnings with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, and active lane control are offered by the 2019 1500.

Ram’s possible configuration are still dizzying: available trim levels are six, three cab sizes, two bed configurations, with rear- or four-wheel drive. Rams top trim levels, which is the biggest in its class offers a 12-in touchscreen for infotainment.

Verdict

From a tool of the trade to rolling boardroom, the iconic Ram 1500 can have a widespread appeal. The front seat is taken by efficiency followed by automatic stop/start, active aero, and a 48-volt hybrid powertrain option. Air suspension is another class-exclusive that smooths out the ride. The two cab styles—quad and crew—join three engine choices that top out at 10,620 pounds of towing capability. As the 2019 trucks enter production several carryover 2018 trims, badged Classic, help fill in the gaps.
