Kia Soul is an impressive hatchback that is practical, yet very stylish. It's designed with seating for five and comes with the regular gas powered cars and the EV model, which can travel 93 miles on full charge.
Kia Soul can make an average day very colorful as it's very exciting to cruise with your family inside.
The soul is an inspiration with many brands based on its design like the Trail’ster, the Track’ster, and Soul’ster.
0-60 and Engine specs
Depending on the model, Kia offers three different engines with different types of transmission.
To start with, the base trim of Soul has 1.6-liter four-cylinder, producing 131 horsepower, is compatible with a six-speed manual, and a six-speed automatic.
The manual gearbox was used for this review, and the result was not that impressive as it lazily accelerated from 0 to 60 in 9.1 seconds.
The second engine in the family is the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, mid-range Plus (“+”) that makes 161 horsepower, and is up to a six-speed automatic. The truth is, the Soul Plus isn't the fastest car around, but drivers will feel more at home with it pulling up to traffic than its smaller cousin. However, the six-speed automatic transmission sluggishly shifts all the same.
The Exclaim, which is the third engine, is powered by the turbocharged 1.6-liter four, and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With 201 horsepower to its credit, it is apparently quick, can easily spin the front wheel with the downright heavy throttle. Unlike other brands, it doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.
Due to sharp gear changes, the transmission can easily snap, unlike the six-speed automatic in the Plus brand, where the gear doesn’t hesitate to shift. The extra bite from the turbocharge makes Exclaim the best bet in the family.
Exterior and Interior
Its interior is quite impressive, well equipped, comfortable, and posh. The Soul offers an upright sitting mode, with superb visibility, which gives an SUV-like driving experience, which is a nice feeling that crossover-minded buyer can get from Soul.
When talking about a car that is fun, stylish and funky in America today, Kia Soul leads the pack. Regardless of the interior, Soul makes heads turn in the traffic.
The exterior is well-shaped and attractive; its look makes it stand out. It may not be among the most expensive, but it is among the most elegant products that rock car scene in 2018.
The Verdict
Kia Soul is for those who are looking for a hatchback that is stylish, elegant and usable. Kia Soul is full of character without denying the practical nature of driving a good car.
If you are after all-wheel-drive car, then the Soul is not for you. Therefore, check other hatchbacks or the subcompact crossovers. The non-EV models are not doing well in terms of fuel economy as well.
