Introduction
The Jeep Cherokee 2018 model is an American car that is battling with the British, German and Japanese models for the top spot in the world of SUV'S. This family 4x4 performs well off-road, has good tech and gadget, but its physical appearance is a bit confusing. For most people, however, the selling point with this car is that is the 4x4 aspect allows you to go just about anywhere.
Engine specifications and 0-60 times
With the Jeep Cherokee 2018 model, you can get two engine variations. First, there is the standard 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine. This gives you 184 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with front-wheel drive, and the car is powerful enough and the engine not too loud.
Your second option is a 3.2-liter V6 engine. This gives you 271hsp and 239 pounds per feet of torque. With this variation, you also get stop/start, but it consumes more fuel than the standard 2.4-liter engine. Models fitted with this engine are a bit heavy going up to 4000punds but also offer a smooth ride and quick acceleration.
Regardless of the engine, you choose you will get 9-speed automatic transmission systems and a mix of some very low gears, three overdrive gear, and some mid-range gears. While these options allow you to cruise in almost any terrain, we observed some jerky gear changes and delayed in upshifts. We reckon that this could be remedied by installing shift paddles for direct control of the gears. If this is not possible, then it is best to drive in sports mode.
The Cherokee has pretty predictable handling although the steering seems to carry too much weight. However, it is good to note that even with all-season tires this car is pretty stable and accurate. If you compare ground clearance in the base Cherokee and Trailhawk, you will notice that the off-road tires in the Trailhawk perform a lot better than the passenger tires in the base model.
The Interior and Exterior Features
Starting from the inside of the Jeep Cherokee, the manufacturer has put in quite some effort in the design and décor of the cabin. There are well chosen and placed plastics, done in well-matched exotic brown and gray color schemes. There are some aspects of the cabin which are reminiscent of older Jeep models like the new park assist screens.
Looking at the outside of the car however you might be a bit disappointed. The manufacturer made some design changes, and this means that the 2018 jeep is rocking a different look from the front. The grille is different and trimmed in metallic plastic, and the headlights have been fitted with LED running lights. Maybe individually these features would have been flattering, but when put together they make the car look like the face of someone having a very long day while running on not enough sleep.
From some angle, the Cherokee even starts to resemble a Santa Fe Sport or the CR-V
Verdict
The mechanics of the Jeep Cherokee 2018 model have not changed much. Its exterior structure is what has been modified. Additionally, with this year's model, you will not find a Cherokee sport. Meaning if you want a base model then you can either choose between the Cherokee Latitude. The new trim levels also available this year are the latitude plus.
