Perhaps the number one reason people are opting for the most recent Ford Focus in the market, the 2018 model, is how it can combine easy driving and comfortable practicality. It might not be the most powerful car in the Ford lineup, by any means, but if you are looking for a small sedan for urban driving that can provide an enjoyable yet simple experience, then the Ford Focus seems like the right choice for you.

Now on with the specs. This is where the Ford Focus offers the widest range of possibilities. Different trims come with a variety of engines that put out more or less power depending on your choice. Most Ford Focus comes with the standard 2.0-liter inline-4 featuring direct injection, more than reasonable 160hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. You can choose between a 6-speed automatic or 5-speed manual; there is also a 6-speed dual clutch transmission, but mechanical problems have been reported with this one, so we suggest you skip it.

Perhaps the most efficient, yet less powerful, is the focus SFE with its 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder engine, working with 123hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. You can opt for the 6-speed automatic transmission, or save even more money by leaning towards the 6-speed manual version.

Moving up in the scale, the Focus RS and Focus ST feature a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine that puts out 240hp, reaching from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, and, oddly enough, a 6-speed manual transmission.

There is still one more option for you, the Focus RS, which has the highest power of the bunch: a 2.3-liter turbo-4, 350hp, dynamic torque, and a 6-speed manual. This trim is good and all, but it does feel a bit of an overkill for the chill urban driving the Focus seems designed for.

Steering and suspension also vary from model to model, but in general, the Focus manages to deliver reasonably good suspension for a small sedan, especially the top models of the line, ST and RS. The Focus SE with sports package also manages to provide good suspension for a bumpy road with its 17” wheels.

The Ford Focus comes in a variety of final designs depending on the trim, and the general opinion is that top performing models have the most grace and appeal. The simple and dynamic curves of the Focus balance out the chill of urban driving and power in a small package. Where the exterior shines, the interior seems lacking, with a complex and not very practical dashboard that could use a second trip to the designer’s board. Still, we appreciate the Sync 3 Infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionalities.
