For the 2018 model, the Corvette comes in three versions: the Corvette Z06, Corvette Stingray, and Corvette Grand Sport. Each is available as a convertible or coupe and hosts the same power at an affordable price.
Both the Grand Sport and Stingray models come with a standard seven-speed manual transmission. An eight-speed automatic is, however, available. Each comes with a 6.2-litre LT1 V8 engine that churns between 455-460 hp and 460-465 lb-ft of torque. The Grand Sport is available with the Z07 track package while the Stingray comes with the Z51 performance package.
The Z06 is the best amongst the three and comes with a supercharged 6.2-litre, LT4, V8 engine that churns a massive 650 hp and 650 pound-feet worth of torque. The transmission comes similar to that of its humbler brothers: a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. With the Z07 package, you get bigger Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors, flexible aerodynamic bits, and a Michelin Pilot Super Sports Cup.
At the crop of the throttle, the Corvette produces a great 460 hp that helps it hit the 60 mph mark in just 3.9 seconds. It then covers a mile in 12.3 secs at 117mph, giving the current market’s best performance value.
The Grand Sport rides on rough roads drama-free. General Motors’ Magnetic Ride Control dampers work extra hard to overcome inconsequential wheel movement. The dampers have a trick fluid that adjusts in viscosity, hence, varying the damping force. An electric current then ensures that the ride is smooth or rough depending on the need. GM has been at work with the technology for more than 10 years. It is used in the Cadillac as well. Unlike its competitors, the Corvette delivers composure and comfort like a family sedan. The base seats equipped without the Z07 package are more comfortable on long rides.
The Grand Sport is a more adventurous version even without the Z07 package. It joins the GT350 in the 10Best Cars list. Their chance of keeping such honors lies in GM’s ability to continue delivering such remarkable functionality and performance.
