Every once in a while comes into the market a new model that stands out so much, that is so special and unique in its segment that you can’t help but notice it for all it’s worth. The X5 M surprised everyone as an unexpected release from the M division of BMW, and once it was tested and the figures were revealed, the public was even more thunderstruck than ever. Not only did the M division manage to put out an SUV nobody saw coming, but on top of that, the model is so terrific and so powerful that a very long time will pass before it is forgotten.
Easily the most surprising aspect of the X5 M is its monstrous engine. It comes with only one option, but once you hear the specs, you will definitively not want to opt for anything else. The X5 M features an astounding twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 that puts out, hear this, 567hp, and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. It seems like excessive for a family SUV, but no one here cares, really. We love the engine output, the 8-speed automatic and the all-wheel drive that can be switched to all-rear or all-front with a simple control on the dashboard.
The huge 21” wheels don’t really make driving any shakier, thanks to its adaptive sports suspension. The towing capacity might not be as impressive as other competitors of the segment, with 6,000 being the top, but this is still a pretty enviable number for a luxury SUV such as the X5 M.
The massive power of the X5 M doesn’t make it hard to control. The adaptable suspension makes the drive smooth and comfortable, and test drives show just how easy to steer it is even in bumpy terrains or when taking sharp turns. The brakes are strong and precise enough to stop this powerful SUV and make the driving even safer.
From the outside, nothing lets you know the power that hides beneath the hood. This is a very standard-looking SUV, with angled lines, a less square-shaped outline than similar models from other companies, and a slightly longer front. It is not very tall, despite its big wheels, so it is very easy to step in and out of the front or rear seats. If you want a more luxurious look, there is a limited-edition black metallic trim called the Black Sapphire Edition, with a far darker palette that will add an edge of sophistication and mystery to your SUV.
The inside has some retro look that still stands up to this day, with a dashboard design that resembles the classics of yore. When you sit inside an X5 M, you know you are in a luxurious SUV, with the posh finishings and upholstery. It might be a bit narrower than the competitors, but still, things are wide enough for you to sit back and enjoy a ride on this powerful beast.
