The Audi S3 is the better-performing version of the Audi A3 sedan. It slides below the four-door S7 fastback, S4, and S6 sedans.
Audi built is to specifically rival the BMW M2 and the Mercedes-AMG CLA45. However, it barely matches to the power that emanates from the two. It features a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 292 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. This enables it to jump from 0 to 60mph in 4.7 seconds. Its 6-speed dual-clutch is quite responsive and operates aggressively through the standard steering wheel shift paddles. The manual transmission is available in Europe, but not in the U.S.A.
Like the Golf R, the S3 runs on all-wheel-drive. The S3 is fortunate enough to benefit from its automaker’s brand cachet, interior technology and top-notch handling. The magnetic-fluid filled shocks enhance the handling. This improves the quality of an already agile and compact vehicle.
The latest S3 has a few trim changes in its cabin. The MMI infotainment system comes with an updated menu that is conveyed on a 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit instrument display. Putting the S3 higher than its VW counterpart is the notable minimalist design which hosts a configurable readout that avails tons of information to the driver. The VW does, however, offer more space at the back and trunk. The cargo area is more than double that of the S3. Also, despite the S3’s seats being lower, taller drivers brush with the headliner, something that doesn’t happen in the Golf.
The 2018 model comes with equipment changes. These include heated front seats and a pair of standard USB ports. The S Spot package adds Audi’s magnetic ride dampers combined with red brake callipers.
