Introduction

The Q3 model boasts with a gracious turbo four and has quite a roomy back seat. Sadly, it is not the quickest or the most efficient. In a comparison test conducted for luxury subcompact crossovers, the q3 landed in the fifth place out of other five vehicles. Its busy ride, poor handling, and dated interior are the reason for the low performance.

The Q3 has a long list of standard features which make its saving grace. Such features include a panoramic sunroof, leather seats, front and rear parking sensors, and xenon headlights. In early 2019, you can look for the all-new Q3.

0-60 historical progress & competitors

The engine is well tuned and responsive, and the transmission delivers confident shifts and has well-spaced gears.

Getting out ahead of traffic has never been this easy with the help of all the 207 lb-ft of torque available at 2,000 rpm. The Q3 is, however, more massive than it looks, about 3,500 pounds, and it takes 7.8 sec with front-wheel drive or 8.2 seconds with the all-wheel drive to make the 0-60 mph run. To get to the top speed which is 130 mph, you would likely need patience. If power and performance are the goals, then the only choice in this class is the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45.

Exterior & Interior

The Q3’s grill sits low, flanked by narrow headlights balancing out intakes which look relatively large for the vehicle. Also, the even base models get the meaner-looking S line front bumper and door sills this year. LED taillights provide an attractive rear signature as the tailgate wraps around the rear end.

Inside the car, a vast expanse of muted black covers the dash. There also soft-touch surfaces and metallic trim. This Audi has a premium look and feel, but the ambiance is not as upscale as other Audis. Controls are now placed closer to the center back, and unlike other Audis, the center screen does not stow away, the space constraints might cause this.

Verdict

By creating the slightly predictable Q3, Audi has cleaved open another gap in its mega portfolio. The Q3 is a posh crossover which is bigger and taller than the A3, but the Q5 is more figured than the Q3. You can say that the Q3 is a smallish hatchback jacked-up to look like an SUV, while still looking like a hatchback. You can also think of it as Audi Q3 vs. BMW X1. Its design is mostly for tarmac use, but a rough track can concur with the raised ride height and optional four-wheel-drive.

This vehicle was facelifted which earned it a bolder front end that looks not unlike the big Q7. A 1.4 TFSI was introduced, and the engine got some tweaks.
