The Edge has become a bestseller: last year, 225,000 models of the Ami SUV went across the counter. The SUV segment is still booming and Ford wants to have his piece of the lucrative cake. The waiting period until the start of the German market is justified by the car maker's adaptation to the European needs.

The handset alone does not really fit the SUV's character. If you carefully change the gears, the six-speed box will not get any problems - an automatic like the 210-PS-Edge would be much more comfortable. Small consolation at the edge: At 7.6 l / 100 km, the Edge remains surprisingly modest. The same can be said about processing, which does not meet European standards with uneven gap gauges and simple plastics. Positive surprise for this: the chassis of the all-wheel drive. It avoids any approach of dynamics, but is also far from a rocky Ami ship. Also with the steering it can live well - you may not confuse the Edge halt with a sports car.

At the price, Ford proves self-confidence: 42.900 euros costs the most favorable edge. A Kia Sorento with 200 hp and all-wheel drive is very comfortable 4000 Euro cheaper - Koreans know Balu also.

The Ford Edge is offered only with two 4-cylinder diesel engines with 2.0 liters displacement. The weaker of both has 180 hp, 400 Newtonmeter (Nm) of torque, a turbocharger and a manual six-speed gearbox. This achieves a top speed of 200 km / h. The sprint from zero to 60 completed this version in 9.9 seconds. The more powerful engine offers 210 hp of power, two turbochargers, 450 Nm of torque and a six-speed automatic. With it one reaches a final speed (211 km / h) 11 km / h higher and 60 miles a lash strike earlier on the speedometer (9.4 s). The power in both models is routed to the axles via an electronically controlled all-wheel drive. The consumption of the engines as given in the brochure is the same for both, is for the tires with 19 inches at 5.8 liters per 100 kilometers in the third mix and generates an average of 149 g / km of CO2.

If 20-incher is mounted, the consumption increases to 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers, and 152 g / km CO2 leave the exhaust system. With these values, both motorization variants meet the Euro 6 standard. In view of the usual vehicle weight of more than two tons and the same consumption values, the stronger variant is recommended. Its power of 210 hp shakes casually out of the sleeve, always unstressed and present in all situations. The Edge is in this point an American in the best sense, an "Easy Glider". The turbocharger, which is often feared with supercharged engines, is not found on this engine. A start-stop system is standard in both variants.
