Introduction

Where purpose and capability are required regarding a car, the Dodge Charger has a wide variety of models lined up to suit whatever needs the buyer requests. The availability of a car model that can offer multiple variations that appeal to different markets for the unique missions that they each require is rare. The Dodge Charger, however, achieves this and at the same time delivers a certain level of practicality that can only be envied by other brands. As the Chevrolet SS has now seized to exist and there remains only two cars with rear-drive-based traditional American four-door models from a non-luxury brand; the Charger and the Chrysler 300. The Dodge Charger finds itself playing multiple roles as it is the only sedan that is available in Dodge’s portfolio.

0-60 and Engine specs

The most significant upgrade for the Charger 2018 as compared to previous models is the standard all-wheel drive. The Charger 2018 gets an additional 8 horses and 4 lb-ft beating the SXT ns SXT plus to have a total of 300 horsepower at 6350 rpm and 264 lb-ft of torque at 4800 rpm. Due to its hugeness, the charger brings off a tire shredding appeal, but the all-wheel drive makes it more appealing to the customers. The all-wheel drive is an additional specification alongside the GT nameplate that has been reinvented in the 2018 year model. The Charger is longer than both the Kia Stinger and the Buick Cruiser adding up to a total mass of 4281 pounds which hinders its acceleration. The acceleration from zero is at 6.4 seconds which is slower than most cars. The GT's eight-speed transmission, however, enables a fast upshift in accelerations but the downside is the upshifts feel instantaneous and abrupt.

Exterior and Interior

The Charger’s interior doesn’t bring about much flair as expected. To begin with, the only colors that are available are black, a two-tone black or a pearl that is more of off-white. Though the car comes off as easy to use regarding the layout, it is hard not to notice that the dashboard is made of rubberized plastic that is definitely of low quality and the cabin is made entirely of hard plastic. The interior is characterized with poor fit and finishes with loose pieces of trim and irregular gaps all over the place. The issues, however, are characteristic of most Chargers.

Regardless of the poor conditions of the cabin, it cannot be said that it is not functional and comfortable. There is considerable leg space for passengers on the back seat. However, the leg space for the driver and the front seat passenger doesn’t quite much up to the conditions of other larger sedans. The seats cannot be said to be too stiff however drivers that are comfort-driven might find a little challenge when it comes to long-distance trips and journeys. All said and done the Charger offers a considerable trunk that could comfortably fit a whole family’s suitcases.

Verdict

Because the Chevrolet SS sedan for 2018 was discontinued, it would only make sense that the Charger stands out as an affordable American sedan that can easily blend both the expected superb performance with the touch of modernity. The 2018 Dodge Charger could easily be regarded as one of Edmund’s best AWD sedans.
