What has been made right at the beginning, needs little change to stay on top of its game after decades. Even if the Chevy Impala has morphed ever since the 60’s, the essence of this sedan remains the same under all the updates and polishing of the newest editions. Easy to handle, reasonably powered, and completely serviceable, with a touch of high-end feel just in the right places.


Regarding the engine, you can choose from a 2.5-liter inline-4 or upgrade your specs to a 3.6-liter V-6. The inline-4 puts out 196hp, which is more than enough for a city ride, although it might be a bit noisier than you would like. Instead, if you go for the V-6, you will get 305hp and accelerate from 0 to 60 in 6.8 seconds. Both engines come with a 6-speed automatic which isn’t, let’s say, the smoothest of its kind.

Drivers have reported some minor issues when switching gears, and you have to pay particular attention to the pressure you put on the pedal, or else the gearbox will get a bit clunky.


The suspension is perfectly functional for an urban ride, and it consists of front struts and a rear multi-link setup that absorbs most of the shock from the road and helps you have smooth driving experience. The steering is also completely serviceable and feels very easy to the hand, and you can change the setup to adapt it to your personal preferences.
From the outside, the Impala looks well balanced and organic. Latest models have reshaped the grille and the headlights for a more modern, almost edgy look, but without losing the composure and equilibrium of its shapes.


We wish the interior was as well designed as the exterior. The dash is functional, definitively, but such functionality could have been arranged in a much better designed. It looks cluttered and strange, with many bumps and sections encased in curve panels that don’t work to the benefit of the whole cabin.

The eye doesn’t instinctively go to the critical parts, as it should, and the 8.0-inch touchscreen seems to sink and get lost among all the dashboard’s other features. On the plus side, the Impala does provide high-end tech functionality such as a Wi-Fi hotspot and the MyLink infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. Also, the cabin is very roomy and comfortable, both on the front and on the back, and the trunk has enough space for a respectable amount of load- which you can easily see from the outside. Additional features such as the keyless start to improve the experience, and the rear-view camera adds up to the safety and handiness of this sedan.
